Executive Director

Kondwani Chamwala is the Founder and Director of the Centre for Environmental Education and Communication (CEEC), where he leverages over a decade of expertise in social and behavioral change communication (SBCC), environmental advocacy, and community engagement. A dynamic communicator and strategist, Kondwani is passionate about transforming environmental awareness into meaningful action, equipping communities with knowledge, and fostering ownership of conservation efforts.

Before founding CEEC, Kondwani served as Communications and Advocacy Lead at the Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC), where he drove national advocacy, stakeholder partnerships, and climate resilience projects. He previously spent nearly a decade as Environment Education & Communications Officer at the Mount Mulanje Conservation Trust (MMCT), leading strategic communications, awareness campaigns, and sustainable tourism initiatives for the Mulanje Mountain Biosphere Reserve. His leadership also includes roles as President of the Athletics Association of Malawi and Vice Board Chairperson of the Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi, reflecting his commitment to both environmental stewardship and human development.

A Bachelor of Journalism and Master of Health & Behavioral Change Communication graduate, Kondwani combines academic grounding with practical expertise in strategic management, communication, stakeholder networking, and multimedia production. His humanitarian spirit is evident through initiatives such as Team Adventure, promoting domestic tourism, and disaster response work supporting vulnerable communities.

Driven by patriotism and service, Kondwani embodies the belief that small, consistent acts of compassion and innovation can create lasting change for both people and the planet.

Operations Director

Thandiwe Mtonda is a development and education professional with over a decade of experience spanning program execution, institutional growth, and capacity building.

As the Director of Implementation and Institutional Development at the Centre for Environmental Education and Communication (CEEC), she leads strategic program delivery, strengthens institutional systems, and builds partnerships that advance the organisation’s mandate in environmental sustainability and community development.

Her career is grounded in strong expertise in communication, program management, and organisational development. With a Master of Arts in Behaviour Change Communication (University of Malawi), she brings a unique perspective on how effective communication strategies can drive social and behavioural change, particularly in areas such as education, environment, health, and community empowerment.

Thandiwe has held diverse leadership and academic roles in reputable institutions including the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), the British Council, the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM), and DMI St John the Baptist University. Her experience covers program implementation, curriculum development, examinations management, student welfare, and consultancy services, giving her a strong foundation in institutional processes and stakeholder engagement.

She is also an accomplished trainer and lecturer, with demonstrated skills in professional facilitation, research, and mentoring. Her research work includes studies on behaviour change in health, women’s economic empowerment, and the impact of cultural practices on education. Confident, adaptable, and results-oriented, Thandiwe combines analytical and interpersonal skills to streamline operations, motivate teams, and deliver measurable impact. She is passionate about using education, communication, and institutional capacity development as tools to strengthen systems, empower communities, and support Malawi’s broader social, environmental, and economic development goals.

Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Manager

Taonga Mtambo serves as the Programmes Manager at the Centre for Environmental Education and Communication (CEEC). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Cultural Studies (University of Malawi) and has over five years experience in communications, programme management, and social and behaviour change communication (SBCC). Her work focuses on creating strategies that inform, inspire, and engage communities around key development and environmental issues.

With a strong background in designing and implementing innovative communication and engagement strategies that drive awareness, influence positive behaviour, and strengthen community participation. Taonga’s expertise spans across corporate communications, digital marketing, stakeholder engagement, and event management. She has worked with Banja La Mtsogolo, where she managed contact centre operations, and led digital engagement to expand access to health information. She has also contributed to projects with organizations such as PSI Malawi, Action Aid Malawi, and ICAP Malawi, gaining broad experience in research, youth engagement, and programme delivery.

At CEEC, Taonga oversees the design and implementation of programmes while leading communication strategies that amplify impact. She is passionate about storytelling, digital media, and building partnerships that promote education, awareness, and sustainable change in communities.

Stephano Nguluwe

Stephano Nguluwe

Research, Policy and Advocacy Officer

Stephano Nguluwe is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts Honours from the University of Johannesburg. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Philosophy at the same University. He is deeply passionate about climate change and climate justice. He is more interested in how climate change impacts vulnerable communities in Malawi and across Africa. His research concentrates on climate justice, particularly forced migration as climate injustice. He explores how displacement undermines home, identity, and belonging. His earlier Honours research examined whether Ubuntu can help address climate injustices in Malawi. This research was grounded in African approaches to environmental ethics. Stephano also has experience in research and advocacy with Non-Governmental Organizations, focusing on promoting sustainable livelihood.

He is also a member of the Eco Humanities Study Group for Southern Africa, where he collaborates with scholars addressing the human dimensions of environmental change. Stephano brings to CEEC strong skills in research and advocacy. He is committed to helping the organization advance its mission of environmental education, policy engagement, and community resilience.

Education and Community Engagement Officer

Alinafe Nazombe is an experienced environmental and community engagement professional with over five years of practical experience in education, humanitarian support, and climate-related programming. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and has served in diverse roles including District Officer, Associate Lecturer, and Environmental Education. Her background reflects strong expertise in community mobilization, disaster risk reduction, climate-smart agriculture, and WASH programming.

In her role in Education and Community Engagement at the Centre for Environmental Education and Communication, Alinafe brings proven capacity to build and sustain relationships with community groups, schools, and key stakeholders. She is skilled in identifying community needs and translating them into responsive, inclusive programs that promote sustainability and environmental awareness. Her facilitation skills enable her to lead dialogue platforms that connect communities with institutions, fostering collaboration and shared solutions.

Alinafe has hands-on experience designing and delivering trainings, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives that empower communities. She is also adept at project coordination, monitoring progress, and evaluating impact to ensure continuous improvement. Her strong communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills position her to effectively drive community-centered environmental education initiatives.
